Personal Statement
My name is Cydney Barnes, I have been swimming since I was 6, but began to swim competitively around the age of 8. I swim for Dover High School in Dover Delaware, and I swim for my local club team, the Dover YMCA Dolphins. I played soccer at a young age and was on a travel soccer team from 5th grade until 8th grade. I currently play varsity lacrosse for my high school during the spring, while swimming year round. My aspiration is to be a better all around swimmer in all four strokes. I want to continue to improve my education in college, potentially studying a field of medicine to become an physician or have a career in the healthcare field. In college, I also want to be the best swimmer I can be. Swimming has always been my "sport." As opposed to soccer or lacrosse, with swimming there is a certain feeling of accomplishment and satisfaction gained. In swimming, each swimmer may be trying to achieve different goals but you all work hard alongside each other to improve your personal goal, but yet unified as a team. I use my determination and motivation to drive me to be more successful in academics and athletics.
