I have been swimming on a club team for as long as i can remember, probably since 2002. In some ways it has shaped my whole life, the people, coaches, and the sport in general. Even though i had been on a club team since i was very young, the high school team made me understand how it really feels to be on a team, to swim for something more than yourself. All my goals were changed from that moment, i used to swim for a best time but now it was so much more than that. From then on I longed to be the best team member possible, ensuring that we would be swimming for a common goal.
My plan for college swimming is to challenge myself while also being a team leader. I have been through many tough times through high school swimming with eligibility rules and illnesses. However, it made me realize how much harder I needed to work to be where I wanted. My goals differ from the majority of other swimmers because they are team oriented. Even though I could not swim my freshman year (due to FHSSA eligibility rules) I believe I learned much in that year. My coach allowed me to help out the team and come with them to their meets. This helped me to understand the fundamentals of being a team leader and be exposed to many great swimmers on my team. In my sophomore year, I finished 3rd in my 100 back and 6th in my 200 free at districts. Then 8th in 100 back and 12th in 200 free at regionals. And finally, 15th in 100 back at states.
