Personal Statement
At 5 years old, I attended a high school swim meet where both of my cousins were competing. I thought it was the most exciting athletic event I had ever seen. I remember telling my parents that this is the sport I wanted to do. From that day on, swimming has been more than a sport for me. It's brought me a community of friends, taken me places, and helped me to develop discipline towards all aspects of my life. It's also brought me a longtime aspiration to swim competitively in college.
I had a turning point in swimming this past year at my high school state finals. With 3 AP courses in my junior schedule, I had challenges advancing my times in my best event, the 200 IM. I really had to get even more disciplined to find a way to improve and I did so when it mattered most during the state finals event, which continued to validate the extent of what hard work can do.
Swimming has also taught me the value of being a strong team mate, based on high moral values, respect, and integrity. I take pride and importance in being the backbone of my team. I believe I have made a difference in our team culture, which has helped both my high school and club teams do well in tough divisions and in the competitive swim state of Florida. I look forward to being a great scholar, swimmer, and team mate in college in this next chapter of my life.
