Personal Statement
My dream is to have the experience of a full academic and athletic life at a top college. To me, being a member of a team that is striving for excellence -- whether this be in the classroom or in the pool -- would be a truly formative lifetime experience. I have no specific preference for geographic locations. Instead, to me the most important is that the college and campus be a place with energy and vision, and a place in which I might be able to make a contribution as well as developing as a student and athlete. I come from a truly mixed cultural background, being born in Europe, raised in South America, and now living in the U.S. I love diversity and challenges, and become instantly committed to anything that I take on. Academically, I have managed to do well in both the sciences and humanities and I enjoy both. If I were to say I have a particular preference, it would be slightly toward environmental science topics. At the moment, I manage to juggle attending a public high school, swimming in school and club competitions, and also swimming for the Colombia National Team. I therefore think I will thrive in a strong school which requires significant academic and athletic committments in terms of time and energy.
