Personal Statement
My name is Mary and I have been swimming since before I can remember-- I can't imagine my life without this sport, which is why I would like to swim in college. In the pool, I like to bring determination and motivation to my teammates. What helps me most is voicing my motivational thoughts aloud, which allows me to connect with my teammates to push not only myself, but also others, to do our best. When I'm not competing, I like to teach elementary school kids how to swim through the ASK! program.
In addition to swimming, I am a varsity volleyball player and a varsity track athlete (high jump and triple jump). This has allowed me to get in the best shape possible, working on all aspects of my strength and fitness to improve my swimming. Other extracurriculars include student government, yearbook staff, and admissions ambassadors. I lead a 6th grade girls Bible study once a week, as well as participating in a mentoring program for 7th grade girls.
I am also a straight A+ student, and have become very good at balancing my time and working diligently. I believe that my academics is the most valuable thing that I could offer to a school. That being said, I am looking for a school that will allow me to pursue my passion in the sciences while competing. I want a school where I can apply my knowledge and use in the real world, rather than just studying in a classroom.
