Personal Statement
My name is Kate Juszynski, and I am currently a junior at Marist School in Atlanta. My dad's job took my family to Asia for the majority of my childhood. I attended Hong Kong International School for 5 years, and Shanghai American School for 5 years. I was a gymnast for 13 years, and also started swimming in 2011. When we moved to Atlanta in 2015, I joined Dynamo Swim Club. I am proud of the progress I have made since joining a club team, and I am excited to see what I can do in the coming years.
I have always been known among my family and coaches as tenacious. Discipline and tenacity are two of my strongest characteristics that I was able to strengthen and test throughout my gymnastics career. Swimming has introduced me to a kind of training and competition that requires a unique drive. I have fallen in love with the challenge swimming provides me every day, and the opportunity to push myself beyond my comfort zone. My personal drive helps me grow in both academics and swimming.
Something that sets me apart from other recruits is my unique experience growing up overseas. I have an open-minded and worldly perspective that I would not have developed so deeply having not grown up in Asia with the opportunities I had to study and travel. I studied Chinese for 10 years, and I learned a lot about world history and religions. My experiences have made me more curious, ambitious, and mindful. I am a hard-working student, as well as an involved member of my school's leadership and faith community. I love to be busy!
In college, I hope to find a team that is driven and united. I believe very strongly in the notion that you become who you surround yourself with. My goals are to continue to work hard with a team to discover my full potential and improve in any ways I can to contribute to the team.
