Personal Statement
My mom had to enroll me in swim lessons as a toddler because I had no fear of the water- my sister and I would run and jump off the dock in the lake and it would terrify my parents- I have always loved the water! They signed me up with my first competitive swim team at the age of 6 and throughout my life I've been on several swim teams due to the fact that my family moves around because of my Dad's job. I think it has been a benefit to me to have been coached by different people because I was never "stuck in a rut" and different coaches have given me new perspectives on my swim strokes and technique. I did try other sports but I never left the sport of swimming. When my family moved to the state of Iowa, I became a member of a competitive triathlon team and was truly disciplined by practicing swimming, biking, and running at the highest level. I learned so much and the team was adamant that each member practice and live the seven pillars of excellence: integrity, respect, humility, accountability, sportsmanship, safety, and goal setting. I realized that these pillars were true to who I was as a person in my everyday life as well as in all my sports. I was split doing swimming in the winter months and triathlons during the summer months. Although I loved triathlons, I decided in August 2016 that I would just focus on swimming. I have already seen drastic improvement in my times since solely focusing on my swimming and improving my technique. My goal would be to make Olympic Trial cuts in my events.
I have always been very competitive and determined to push past my limits in the pool and I appreciate what my coaches offer. I am a hard worker and I would love to continue to swim at a collegiate level. I always have a positive outlook and that positivity follows me in my practices, during races and in my school work. As such, I aspire to be someone people can look up to; I strive to be the best person I can be in and out of the pool.
I want to find a college where I can meet my goals in the classroom and in the pool. I am open to all options. I would like to find a college where I can build great relationships with my teammates and coaches, peers, and find a place where I can call my home.
