Personal Statement
When I was 5 years old I got interested in swimming. I improved very quickly and started to competitive swim at age 9. Being a part of a team has really influenced who I am. Supporting my friends and cheering them on is a big part of it. But also putting in the effort is another thing. Being a part of a consecutive year state team has really pushed me to improve my times and motivate me to get better. With swimming its helped me become a leader and a hard worker. With that being said, this past year I felt confident enough to start teaching Sunday school class at my church. I want to further my swimming career in college as well. In academics my goal is to achieve becoming a physical/occupational therapist. My sister has influenced many things in my life because she has a lot of disabilities herself. At 2 1/2 she was diagnosed with a rare chromosome disorder that there is not a lot of information about. One of her biggest sub-diagnoses is sensory processing disorder. She herself swims in a special needs aquatic program. She loves the water and is the calmest when she is swimming. I want to be able to bring an aquatic program into my OT/PT professional career to help all children with disabilities. The children in our local class have fun while being therapeutic in the water. I know that with being a hard worker, having leadership, and ability to improve my swimming; I could be a great impact on your team. I Believe I have what it takes.
