Personal Statement
I am a 5'5 swimmer (particularly the 100 and 200 fly) from Naperville, Illinois. I have been on the varsity team of Metea Valley High School since freshman year. During my most recent junior season, I competed in the Illinois State meet in the 200 free relay. My relay team placed 5th at the meet with a time of 1:35.03, resulting in an All-American status. I competed in the third leg with a time of 24.30. I was also awarded with "Most Improved" on my swim team at the end of my sophomore season.
i have recently concluded my summer long course season where I was able to travel to the Sectional Championships in Iowa City. I posted some personal best times in the 100M fly of 1:06.36, 50 free of 27.97 and 200M fly of 2:20.10. I also competed in the competitive Naperville City Meet, the culminating event of the Naperville Swim Conference; there, I swam my best 100Y free time of 53.90.
My first and continuing experience on a swim team has been my participation on the Centennial Beach Mudrats, part of the Naperville Swim Conference. It was during the summers with my friends that I found my love of swimming and competing. The friends that I had made as an inexperienced 9 year old are still a big part of my life and even though we may go to different high schools, we stay connected and form even tighter bonds of friendship when we battle each other during races in the summer.
My vision of my future would be to attend a school that has balance between athletics and academics. I would also like to attend a school that has an outstanding psychology and/or health sciences program as I potentially would like to pursue a career in that area. Ideally, my athletic environment would be one where I am accepted into the team and valued immediately, and where I can lead and motivate the team, as well. I would love to attend a university that will allow me to swim, while at the same time earn the best education possible. My goal is to continue to improve both athletically and academically during my last two years of high school, so I will be able to be an asset to my future collegiate environment and swim team.
