Personal Statement
Winning IHSA State Championship in the 100 breast stroke was the highlight of my Sophomore year. There were many things I had to learn and do to lead up to this huge accomplishment. When I was a freshman I felt I had a very good chance of winning 2 state titles in the 100 free and 200IM. I ended up getting 5th and 9th place and was devastated. Going into my next season, it made me work just that much harder. Looking back on my freshman year, I realized that I didn’t work as hard as I should have. I used the disappointment of not achieving my goal to motivate me going into the next year. I got a plan and had very clearly written goals to help me stay motivated. Leading up to the state meet, I celebrated all my little accomplishments: Breaking team and school records, setting pool records, getting All- American times, never losing an individual event, etc. When I got 2nd in the 200 IM by .07 and won the 100 breast with two best times, I was amazed what staying focusing and perceiving felt like. Moving forward, I strive to have those feelings again.
I am fortunate enough to have such great people support me along my journey. My parents and coaches help me stay focused on my goals and remind me why I train so hard. My brother, who attends Lake Forest College as a pre med student, is always at my meets cheering me on and helping me stay on track academically. As an athlete who gave up softball to focus on my swimming career, I am a dedicated athlete who strives for excellence in every aspect of my life. I want to be the best, well-rounded person I can be.
