Personal Statement
My goal in college is to study journalism, and perhaps pursue a career in broadcast journalism. I would also like to continue to work toward reaching my personal best as an athlete in college.
I started swimming for the Kansas City Blazers when I was 8 years old, and the only stroke I knew was backstroke. I also did dance, gymnastics, basketball, track and field, and played high school and club volleyball. In the fall of my sophomore year, I had the opportunity to move up to the Senior National swim team and I decided to commit to swimming full time. As a swimmer, I have experienced 3 State Championship teams, was an individual contributor and a two-time relay champion, along with being named to the First Team, All State. At the club level, I have qualified for Region 8 Sectionals, and last year was Top 24 in the 200 backstroke. I am looking forward to winning a fourth straight State title with our team this year!
The sport of swimming has taught me so much about discipline, hard work, and success, but I have come to learn that I the value the aspect of teamwork the most, and that sense joy and pride you share when you win as a team. When the sport of rowing was introduced to me as an opportunity to compete as a D1 athlete, I wasn't sure what to think! After doing some visits for swimming and rowing, I believe rowing is my kind of sport! It combines the work and the discipline with the teamwork, and I am excited for my future in the sport!
I believe I will be a good fit in any collegiate program, as I have a strong work ethic and I am a supportive and positive teammate. I know I will represent my school and my team in a manner that would make my coaches and my family proud.
I look forward to learning more about your school, your program, and how I can become a contributor!
Thanks so much for your consideration!
