I started swimming when I was seven years old, mostly due to the influence of my sister. My parents wanted me to find something that would keep me active, while still being something I enjoyed. I hadn't clicked with any sports until that point, and was reluctant to try anything new, but once I jumped in that pool, the search was over.
Although I can't say I always love the physical and mental strains of swimming, the rewards of getting a best time or celebrating with my teammates are the moments I remember best, and what I think truly encapsulates my sport. I love being a part of the sense of community created by swimming, and it inspires me to improve for both myself and my team. Each season I strive to be a better swimmer and more supportive teammate, and am always willing to put in the work to achieve the results I want.
During the swim season, I take particular care to manage my time between my studies and keeping up with practices. As a student, I am well versed in prioritizing what needs to get done to maintain my GPA and stay on top of my classwork. Last year, I also started working as a lifeguard, and have taken up various volunteering opportunities.
My goal for college is to continue swimming, and I am open to the various forms that may look like. I would like to go somewhere that will allow me to challenge myself through my studies and maintain my relationship with the pool. I feel like I've already grown so much from the little girl who used to splash around and was always nervous at meets, but I am excited to see what my future in college holds. I hope I can continue to improve to become someone my family and I can be proud of.
