Melanie Doan '16 Recruiting Profile

I started swimming for a team when I was 7, and ever since then, my dedication and commitment to the sport has grown. Swimming has influenced my discipline and responsibility and I am looking for a school that can continue to challenge me. I am a very good listener and always take advice to help me become a better swimmer. I am not afraid to stand up for myself and think of myself as a leader, especially  when others don't want to step up. I work hard everyday, and most importantly, I have a smile on my face while doing it. I am one of the happiest and most fun people you can find, and have no problem encouraging others to be the same.
To be honest, school comes first to me. All my life I have received a report card to brag about, and in college, I plan to work just as hard. I don't get stressed easily and I'm punctual when it comes to assignments. I plan on getting a high degree while in college and I know that it comes with sacrifices, but I am used to putting what is most important in front of my wants.
My mom is a research scientist  and an expert on nutrition and fitness. She has written 7 books and hundreds of articles about nutrition.  For my entire life my parents have grown their own vegetables and made very balanced home cooked meals for the family.  I know more about sports nutrition than my coaches! I have always had custom supplements and weight training as well. I always get my sleep, too so for these reasons I have not been sick, injured or even needed ANY medication since I was born.
