Personal Statement
Leading up to this point in my life, the obstacles I've endured have shaped me into a mature, selfless, and strong minded person. Since I was young, I have been a caretaker. My best friend suffered from a brain tumor, and ever since her recovery I was very protective of her and made sure she was always safe, and doing all the things she needed to do to be healthy again. Then, when I was only 7 years old, my 14 year old brother was diagnosed with stage 4 Hodgkins Lymphoma. My mom spent a lot of time with my brother at the hospital so at a young age I also had to learn to be independent. My brother is and always has been my role model. He is still the strongest and most resilent person I know. I want to become a nutritionist because I want to influence others on the importance of a healthy lifestyle and exercise. Not only am I a caring teammate, but I am a competitor. I love to race, and the drive I have in and out of the pool has influenced the teammates around me to be the best athletes that they can be. I love to work hard, but I also need to enjoy want I am doing. My brother's experience has taught me a lot about living life to the fullest and making sure I am always enjoying what I am doing. No one knows when everything can be taken away. I am very passionate about my training, but more so about the people I love.
My goal as a student athlete is to continue to better myself and the people around me. I want to gain knowledge that will help me influence others throughout the rest of my life. My goal is the have the perfect balance between academics, athletics, and fun during my college career.
