Harley Ruiz '15 Recruiting Profile

I started taking swimming lessons at the age of 4 and fell in love with being in the water. Our community center did not have a swim club so I continued through all levels of swimming lessons, even taking level 6 several times just so I could swim. I took any swimming classes our community center had that would allow a swimmer of my age at the time, such as junior masters and junior lifeguarding, just so I could be in the water. In the Spring of 2009 the Waconia Swim Club was started so at the age of 12 I eagerly joined and started swimming competitively. In the Fall of 2009, 7th grade, I joined the Waconia High School Swim Team and have been a member each year.

Participating in extra-curricular activities is something I have always done. During my elementary years I participated in community education volleyball, basketball and softball. I was also a member of the Waconia Performing Arts Dance Company for 10 years (age 4 -13) in which I participated in ballet, point, jazz, tap and modern dance.

Being active is just part of who I am as a person. In order to work on my body strength and endurance I started taking CrossFit classes the Summer of 2013 and very much enjoy the high intensity workouts, daily challenges and family/team atmosphere. I feel that being active both in and out of the water will make be a better overall swimmer in the years ahead.

In school I strive to do my best in all my classes, it is not always easy but I feel that if I can stay focused I can achieve the results I expect from myself. I have been able to maintain a GPA that has allowed me to letter academically both my 9th and 10th grade years.
