Personal Statement
On January 17, 2015, I was kicked during warm-up at a meet in Fishers, IN. A boy from another team did a breaststroke kick that jammed my left ring finger back and broke the 4th metacarpal in my hand. I did not realize it was broken and swam my 200 free. I was winning my heat in the first 100, but then the pain was excruciating during the second 100. After the race, I went to the ER. I had surgery to repair it on January 21, and was back in the water kicking on January 26. I was cleared to start pulling again with a waterproof splint on Feb. 2.
I swarm at Region VIII Sectionals in Jenks, OK March 5-8, 6 weeks after surgery, and was close to my best times in several races. I made it back to finals in 4 out of 5 events through, as my coach put it, "sheer force of will". He kept me on the A relay teams in the 800 and the 400 free because he knows I will always give him 100% of whatever I have. Even without any best times at sectionals, I still scored points and our CSP Tideriders women's team won for the first time in years! By far, my proudest moment of the meet was anchoring our 400 Free relay team to a silver medal! I swam a personal best split of 52.50.
I am looking for a college that will allow me to balance my academic and athletic goals. I want to swim on a team with other women that can push me to improve and where I can contribute to the team's success. I want to swim where I can make a difference.
