Personal Statement

My name is Ashley Daniels and I have been swimming since I was 5 years old. I first learned to swim from my summer coach and loved the sport from the start. After a few years of swimming for my summer team, I joined my local club swim team. I spent three years on Rockwood Swim Club, and then switched to the Clayton Shaw Park (CSP) team. Once I began swimming on CSP, my love for swimming grew even more as I became a bigger part of the team both athletically and socially. While getting to know my teammates and coaches made me eager to attend each practice, achieving my first sectional cut freshman year motivated me tremendously.

I had a great time swimming for my high school team as a freshman which reinforced my desire to continue swimming in college.  Based on my club coach’s recommendation, I made the difficult decision to not swim with my high school team after that first year so I could attend more club practices in hopes of dropping even more time and increasing my chance of swimming for a great school while in college.

I’m excited to swim in college so I can see how much I can improve.  I want to be the best I can be and know that the training and coaching that I’ll receive during the four years that I’m in college will help me get faster.  I look forward to contributing to my collegiate team’s success and having the opportunity to represent my school at the next level of competition.  Of course, I also look forward to building relationships with my new teammates who I expect to be some of my best friends during college and hopefully long after graduation.

While swimming is a huge part of my life, and I hope it will continue to be a big part of who I am through my college years, I realize that I’m attending college to get a great education that will prepare me for the next chapter of my life.  I’m not sure exactly what I want to do after college so I haven’t settled on a specific major, but I do believe I want to study business.  As such, the best fit for me will be a college with high academic standards that can offer me a quality business education while also having a swim team that I can contribute to.

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
