I have a dream to become a Dental Hygienist and to swim for college. I believe I would be a good candidate due to my commitment to my team. In my five and a half years of swimming, I have consistently improved my stroke and times. I am also able to swim all four strokes proficiently and I consistently get points for my swim team. The things that make me different from other athletes is I have developed great study habits, social awareness, and team building skills due to my learning disabilities which I was born with.
I have a rare genetic disorder called PKU, which has contributed to my learning disabilities. I had many hurdles to overcome scholastically, physically, and socially. With the help of coaches, teachers, family, and friends I am a successful student/swimmer and have a large social network at my high school and on the pool deck. Due to my life experience in regards of swimming, I have realized building team relationships and focusing on technique helps build morale, because of this I volunteer my time to help coach kids from my high school team and club team.
