My name is Samantha Dugan. I started swimming competitively at the age of 5. My mother happened to hear about our town’s recreational summer swim team and signed me up. I fell in love with swimming that summer. When I turned 8 years old I knew I had to swim full time and my parents signed me up to swim full time at the local YMCA. Over the years I have made silvers, states, junior olympics, and I am now a part of the National Team. I made my nat cuts in the 100 backstroke and the 200 backstroke. I also played soccer for 10 years and ran cross country for 3 years, but by 8th grade I realized that I wanted to dedicate myself solely to swimming. When I started high school I joined the swim team. I broke an 18 year record in the 100 backstroke as a freshman and then broke my own record as a sophomore. Moving forward I can’t wait to swim at a college level!
My goal for my remaining two plus years at the Ocean County YMCA is to break a team record. My goal for my remaining two years as a member of the Toms River High School Swim Team is to continue to break school records and to be captain of the team. Due to Covid, I haven’t been able to swim at Nationals yet, but when I do my goal is to make finals.
My school grades have always been high. In middle school I was placed in the Gifted & Talented program which led to me taking higher level classes during high school. I am a part of the Interact Club. I have been accepted into Peer Leadership for my Junior year. In my spare time, I try to volunteer for various community services such as Beach Cleanup.
Thank you for taking the time to read a little bit about me. In closing, I can’t wait to swim at the college level and be a part of a college team!
