I have been swimming competitively for 7 years and I have learned several things about myself through this amazing sport. Swimming at the collegiate level is a once in a life time opportunity . This opportunity can change my life in many ways and I am more than excited for my future at college to begin with my lifetime goal to be able to swim in college.
I have continued to grow as an athlete and as time passed, I quickly realized that the amount of work you put into each practice will ultimately show in your performance at meets.
This past season I hit a plateau of not improving my times. This made me quickly realize how important work ethic is and no excuse is good enough. I believe I am a very coachable athlete that loves hearing feedback no matter how big or small that needs to be adjusted or changed. I have made the Varsity High School Team since my freshman year and have three events on the top 10 list over the past ten years of swimmers, in my freshman year. Working hard in the classroom is my priority, which has definitely had challenges in the past, but was fixed as soon as it became a problem.
Multiple girls from younger age groups on my club team look up to me in multiple ways. From the way I carry myself to my attitude in the pool, many girls will ask me to help them with their technique along with being able to trust me and talk to me about whatever is on their mind. I attended Fairview Lakes YMCA young leaders camp in 2016. This was an amazing experience and taught me valuable leadership skills and lessons, I was recommended by my swim coaches for this outstanding opportunity. The season of 2014-2015 I was awarded the “Sportsmanship” award, and I was the only person to receive this award. I am a volunteer with my local YMCA’s special olympics swim team, and it is something I look forward too every Wednesday and Sunday, and it is the most rewarding experience. In 2016 I was awarded Youth Member of the Year, "for the belief in the highest purposes of the YMCA as witnessed by the high degree of participation in the Association's programs, exemplary conduct, consistent willingness to help others and outstanding qualities of leadership."
If given the opportunity to swim at the collegiate level, I will be sure to make the most of each practice and work to my greatest potential.
