Personal Statement
Swimming has been part of my life since I was five years old. I first realized that I wanted to swim at the collegiate level in between seasons this past year, when our coach gave us a month off. I had never felt so empty in my life because I always have swam 6 days a week, every week. Without swim practice, my day didn’t feel complete. Coming so close to the end of my high school swimming career, I know that swimming at the collegiate level is the next step in my swimming career because I can see myself achieving great things from the experience.
Outside of the pool, I am also a hard working student. I study very hard in order to get good grades. I have maintained an 88 GPA. I always stay focused on my school work and I also contribute a lot of my time to my school. Maintaining my grades is very important to me, like reaching a time for a race, and I also don’t give up on academics. This year, chemistry began to become very difficult for me so I decided to find myself a peer tutor to help me understand it better.
I joined Shaker Student Government my freshman year and I participate in all the events. In addition, I was selected to be in the Student Government homeroom for being a strong member and for going above and beyond for the club. Recently, I was also the head coordinator for Catwalk for a Cause, which raised $2000 for JDRF.
While being a competitive swimmer, I am also a very strong leader and a supportive teammate. I always love being a part of a team because I get to encourage and support all of my teammates. I always have been a hard worker and I don’t give up easily. I always have and will strive to be the best I can be. Despite the disappointment I had recently felt from our relay missing the states cut by .01 this past season, I am determined to work hard and go to states with an individual time. I want to go to a school where I am able to challenge myself both academically and athletically.
