Personal Statement
I started taking swim lessons when I was 5 years old at the local YMCA. I absolutely loved my lessons and progressed quickly over the first year. Swimming felt and stills feels today very natural for me. The swim team coach would come and "borrow" me to demonstrate my kicks and strokes for the team. The coach talked my parents into allowing me to join the team at 6 years old. Racing and competing was awesome and I have not stopped working hard and competing ever since.
I work hard in all the aspects of my life. I plan to swim for a very long time. I work daily to increase my mental toughness. I work on my focus and I get better workouts and more from them when I stay positive. I am a very dedicated and dependable person. I have a very good worth ethic in and out of the water.
I am an excellent student and I will continue to study hard and make sure that swimming and academics are prioritized accordingly. I make sure that my mind and body remain balanced so that I can truly maximize both. I plan to always love what I do, and do what I love. I do not mind working hard for what I want to succeed at in my life. I plan to flourish in both my academics and swimming career.
My collegiate goals are to swim and to play an important role in the success of my college team. I really enjoy being part of a team, cheering on my teammates and sharing our success and of course, at times, our failures. My individual goal is to qualify for Nationals through to Olympic Trials and hopefully beyond. I plan to be in the field of Sports Medicine. I am incredibly interested in Kinesiology and how exercise and creating endurance effects the physical body and mind. I will be great at this because I aleady live and learn it everyday. I am excited to someday pass my knowledge and experience that will continue to grow over my years on to others.
I am a good candidate for your team because I make an effort everyday to stay tough, train hard and make smart life decisions. I am loyal and energetic. I never miss a training session. I make sure all my training is fluent from one area to the other and that all is applied every time I enter the water. I always consult my coaches before and after my races for feedback. I accept my coaches criticism and I know I am a work in progress. I condition myself to brush off setbacks, learn from them, and then bounce back hard. I take full responsibility for my swimming. I am responsible for my success and for my failures. It is not the person in the lane next to me, the coach, or a teammate. I am in full control and for this reason, I would be a great member for your team.
