Dear coach or recruiter,
Thank you for taking the time to view my profile! I hope through this personal statement, I can express what statistics cannot. I value and appreciate every consideration.
I have been swimming for 9 years. 5 years on Houston Swim Club and the past 4 on the Dads Club Swim Team. I created a swim team in my middle school in the 8th grade, and the past 2 years I have swam on my high school's varsity team. On my Club Team I have qualified for the Texas Championships nine times and have won State three times in the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, and the 800 freestyle relay as well as placing top 8 in four other events. I have qualified for Southern Sectionals in the 50 and 100 freestyle and I also qualified for the select Texas All-Star Team twice. As I go on to become Senior in High School, I have already been awarded the Varsity High Point Award for the St. John's team in 2012, 2013, and 2014. I was also named one of the nation's few Scholastic All-Americans for academic and athletic excellence both this year and last year.
I am proud of my accomplishments and successes in the pool, however, the pool is not the only place where I spend my time. I participate in many clubs at St. John's and am the leader of my own Club as well. My newly formed "NAP Club" provides overworked and weary High School students time to rest during lunch break so they are refreshed and less stressed for the rest of classes ahead of them that day. Furthermore, I am passionate in the arts when it comes to theater and music. I have played the piano for 9 years, I take vocal lessons, and have been in many school theater productions as well as productions outside of school. Lastly, volunteering is a big part of my life. I volunteer every summer at my church as a camp leader during Vacation Bible School. I have also volunteered as a medical assistant in doctors' offices.
Whether in or out of the pool, I always give 100% of myself to whatever the subject may be. I feel that through helping others, I may be able to learn from these experiences. I am very receptive to new ideas and opportunities.
Lastly, I am looking for a college/university that provides vigorous academic programs as well as a strong, competitive swim team where I will always be motivated and strive to work hard. Swimming has not only taught me many life lessons such as the importance of strong work ethic and time management, but has also given me great happiness for the past 9 years and things I would have never dreamed of achieving. I thank my family, friends, and peers for supporting my swimming career all these years and hopefully it will continue the rest of high school and college! Thank you, again, coaches for visiting my profile
Sincerely,
Elena Skaribas
