Personal Statement
I started swimming in July 2009 and quickly fell in love with the competitiveness of the sport. As my high school years start to come to a close, I hope to continue my love and passion for the sport into my college years. I began swimming for a year round team and then joined the high school team as a Freshman and have continued to swim for both teams ever since. I have made it to regionals each year, broke records my freshman year and every year since, and also lettered as a Freshman. More recently I broke the district record in the 500 Freestyle and am the current district champion in that event.
I have worked hard to achieve a 3.5 GPA and will continue to work even harder to raise it even higher. I will be taking my SATs for the first time this spring and will take it again in the summer, and then again in the fall. I will take the test as many times as I need to in order to achieve the result I want. I believe to be academically and athletically successful you have to have dedication and make many sacrifices, but in the end it's all worth it.
Along with swimming, I am also involved in my school choir. I am on the Varsity women's choir and am also a Chamber Singer, which is a show choir. Chamber Singers is a by invitation only choir that consists of the best 6 girls and best 6 boys of the Varsity women's and Varsity men's choirs. It requires extra performances as we travel for community and holiday performances, graduations, competitions, etc. We recently competed at the UIL competition and advanced to State competition in May. We, as students, are held to a higher level of expectations due to the fact we are a select group of students.
I am constantly working hard at my sport to be the best athlete I can be, but being a successful athlete also includes being a successful student. I will be working hard and challenging myself over the next year to improve my times and my grades even more. I have the dedication and love for the sport as well as my academics to not allow myself to not be successful.
