Personal Statement

I have loved the water ever since I was tiny (Which was not for very long as I hit a growth spurt at 9 and didn't stop until my 15th birthday).  I did recreational swim team in Hilo, Hawaii from the time I was 6 to the time I was 12, at which time I moved and joined a competetive swim team (HAST) in American Fork Utah.  I have not looked back since, and hope to continue doing what I love through college.  My goal is to become a highschool teacher, and have a positive impact on the teenagers around me.  My greatest wish is to one day become a highschool swim coach, and help others discover a love of water, like I did years ago.

  • My proudest moment as a swimmer in the last season; I was entered in 11th, and I was the 2nd ffastest swimmer in the second fastest heat. I was aiming for a best time, but I had only been tapered for abut a week, as my big meet (Club States) was the week after. My coach, Stan Krump, told me to get in and beat the other girl (ranked 1st in the heat) for the first 200 and I would be fine. I dived in, swam the first 200 10 yards ahead of the other girl.... and I didn't want to slow down. I have always been extremely competitive. I took the risk (died out on the last 100 FYI), and ended up going 5 seconds faster then my best time. I beat everyone in my heart by several seconds. The heat after me got in, and I beat 5 of them, which put me into 4th place, and my first time on the podium as a 10th grader.
