Swimming has been a huge influence for me in and out of the pool. It has helped me learn to create goals and to work for them no matter how hard the process may be. Even with those goals in mind some things don’t always go as planned. During my sophomore year right before champ season I ended up having to go to the ER, mentally and physically making me feel utterly defeated. A whole season of hard work seemed to be completely lost and wasted, but that situation had helped me grow more than I ever thought possible. That major set back eventually seemed to be a small bump in the road. I learned that there will always be hard times and that’s always going to be a part of life and the sport, but you have to push through and believe that things are always bound to get better. Also it allowed me to have a better mind set. Being that sick right before champ season crushed me mentally, but that experience helped me to start thinking more positively and to not stress the little things. Perseverance and always believing in yourself can do wonders not only your attitude but your performance and I learned that first hand. Even after one of my toughest experiences within the sport, it led me into my best training season yet, from learning to train your hardest every chance you get and the benefits of having so many supportive teammates, I look forward to what’s to come.
For the past decade of my life swimming has been right there with me, giving me opportunities and friendships I never will forget. Like swimming, I am always looking for ways to challenge myself academically and am looking forward to bringing that work ethic into college, to both my sport and my academics. I hope to be able to study what I enjoy at a college that challenges me in multiple ways while being surrounded by people that are willing to help me grow. From making a huge switch to a different team two years ago and having to adjust to new surroundings it has been a crazy ride, but I’ll always continue to work and strive for my goals. From my work-ethic, leadership skills and my ability to commit to whatever is put in front of me and put my full effort into it, I believe that I will make a great addition to your program.
