Personal Statement
First and foremost, I am a serious student, and am excited to pursue a career in education. The oldest of 5 kids, I am a self-starter and pride myself in being responsible, driven, caring and loyal. I believe in giving back to the community and helping those in need. I am an active contributor to a breast cancer research foundation that my mom (a breast cancer survivor) started, called Wings of Karen.
Swimming has become my passion. Even though I am fresh to the sport, effectively only competing since joining my high school team, I have found my calling and have made it my goal to compete at the college level. Acknowledging that I don't have the lifetime of training that many of my colleagues have, I am raw in many aspects of my form. Continually improving my times, now at state qualifying levels, I know that I have a tremendous amount of growth still achievable. I have the physical attributes of a top level swimmer, and the will to get there. I am looking for a college where I can continue to improve, excel and contribute to the team’s success. A very coachable athlete, each year my times improve by seconds, not tenths, making me a great recruit and providing tremendous upside for your program.
