Personal Statement
I have been swimming competitively for six years on the Issaquah Swim Team and am currently on the National Squad, which is the highest level. I started swimming when I was about nine years old on a local summer league swim team. From then, I knew this was the sport I wanted to do year-round because I love being in the water and having that competitive feeling of racing other people. As long as I can remember, my dream has always been to swim in the Olympics and have the opportunity to race the fastest swimmers in the world. While I have not reached that goal yet, when I was a freshman in high school, my dream was to swim in college. I wanted to continue to be part of a great team and do the sport that I loved. Swimming has taught me many valuable things in life - discipline, sportsmanship, team building, commitment and life balance (between school and swimming). I have made so many friends through swimming and I love knowing they enjoy doing the same thing I do. My teammates are like my family. Just as important, I value and trust my coaches, knowing they are the people who want to make me a stronger and better athlete. Over the years, I have learned so much from swimming and it continues to teach me about how important it is to be determined, persevere and work hard. I have experienced disappointment at meets but these experiences have made me stronger and even more determined to work harder. Of course, I have also experienced great joy when making my cuts. I can’t wait to be part of a college swim team!
