Personal Statement
My goal is to swim in college while earning a degree in education.
I have been swimming since I was a toddler and developed my initial swim skills swimming in the lake we live on. I first started swimming competitively my sophomore year. I initially joined the swim team to stay in shape for alpine ski racing which has been my primary sport since I was 6 years old.
During the three years of competitive swimming I have lowered my times significantly and received “Most Improved” swim recognition the past two years. I have a tremendous potential for improvement. This growth can be attributed to the same skills that allowed me to be an elite ski racer including commitment, hard work and training, learning the technical skills, desire to compete and the value of being a team member/leader. The results have created a passion and interest to swim at the college level.
Academics are also very important to me. I study hard to maintain a high GPA. I have been attending Running Start the past two years at a local community college. Additionally, I work at the local YMCA as a swim coach and lifeguard during the week. On weekends, I coach for a ski team. I have also been very active in my school choir four years. Last summer, I spent two weeks on a mission trip to Nicaragua.
I am interested in attending a college that allows me the opportunity to succeed academically while swimming competitively. I look forward to these challenges and my growth and development as a student athlete and teammate.
