My name is Mikaela Barger and I am in my senior year at DeForest High School. I have loved swimming my whole life, and starting swimming on DeForest Aquatic Club (DFAC) when I was 7 years old. I have swam every year since, and in the fall I swim on my high school team. I have had many accomplishments in and out of the pool. I have qualified for the winter and summer states for several years. My main strokes are butterfly (100 and 200) and sprint freestyle. My freshman year I made varsity and qualified for state in the 100 Fly, 200 Medley Relay and 200 Free Relay. I placed 11th in the fly. My sophomore year I qualified for the 200 Medley and free relays, 50 free and 100 fly. I placed 9th in the free and 6th in the fly. My junior year I went for the same events, our 200 Medley relay placed 1st breaking a school record and earning All-American Consideration, our 200 Free Relay was 3rd, and I placed 5th in the 50 free and 4th in the 100 fly, earning my junior NCSA time. I was also voted to be a Co-captain for my senior year.
My freshman year in school I was in FFA and DECA, this year I participated in Spanish Club, Leo Club, and was inducted into the National Honor Society. Last summer I took a spanish trip to Spain where I improved my spanish and learned a lot about the Spanish culture. This summer I will be traveling to Costa Rica for spanish again, where we will go to a local school to learn about their lives and help them out. I have always kept my grades up, knowing I have to in order to swim. I would consider myself very hard working and determined to get the job done. I don't give up if things get too hard. I am good with working in a team, but prefer to work independently. I also participated in Track and Field my sophomore and junior year.
I look for a college where I could possibly swim and study my selected fields. As of now I am interested in marine biology, biotechnology, and genetics. I am a good student, and strive to do the best I can in and out of the pool. I hope to meet new people along the way and improve social skills as well. On the team, I will be excited to learn how the team blends together as one, and will show good leadership skills. I am very excited to start swimming at the collegiate level soon. Thank you for looking at my profile!
