Tennis teaches me how to persevere in sports and life. John, a tennis instructor of mine when younger, told me I would never be a good tennis junior. But John was wrong. Two years later, I beat coach John’s top tennis student 6-1, 6-2 during a tournament that I won. The game of tennis, like life, is about overcoming challenges, negative people, and learning to never give up in what you believe. I can bring this attitude to your team to inspire others to continue to persevere in the face of obstacles. Under your direction, I know I can continue to improve and become a top performer on your team.
Student Background:
Like on the tennis court, I work hard in the classroom. As an Honor Roll and IB Certificate student in High School, I have learned how to balance athletics with high-level performance in the classroom. I have completed several high-level honors classes. Currently, I’m enrolled in several advanced IB classes including IB Math, IB Chemistry, and IB English & Language. You don’t have to worry about my performance in the classroom as I’m dedicated to success on and off the court (so far, I’ve earned a Cumulative Weighted GPA of 3.94 in high school).
Tennis Background
I know how to train hard on the tennis court and understand the dedication required to improve and excel during matches, which I’ll bring to your team. I’ve learned how to win matches and tournaments over the last ten years—and how to bounce back after defeat. I competed in the USTA Spring Super National when I was 12 years old and won three matches. My current goal is to become a top 50 player in Florida G18s by the start of my senior year. At that time, I’ll qualify for USTA National Tournaments and ITF by Fall of 2015. Besides training 15 plus hours or more a week on court, I understand athletes must have the complete performance package. I train with fitness trainer Dave Herman, who was a fitness coach to top ATP professionals. In addition, I work to improve my mental game with my father, Dr. Patrick Cohn, who has helped top athletes in the world for over 25 years. I can help your team’s success in both singles and doubles, as I’m just as adept at the net as the baseline.
Personal and Community
In my spare time, I enjoy reading novels, watching movies, and taking care of my pets. I’m passionate about helping others in my spare time. For example, I have completed 63 hours of community service by volunteering to run local tennis tournaments in the community. In addition, my mother was born in Venezuela and came to the US to work before marrying my father. Being of Latin descent, I have learned to appreciate other cultures and how to overcome adversity.
