Personal Statement
Let me take a few minutes of your time to introduce you to myself and let you know what makes me a good candidate for your team. I began playing tennis at the age of six and quickly fell in love with the sport. I began competing at age eight. Since that time, I have competed in the USTA youth circuit, climbing my way to the top 75 in the Midwest, and advancing to the Midwest Closed Championships. Competing in the USTA circuit taught me how to be independent, goal-driven, and focused. Transitioning to high school tennis introduced me to the team aspect of tennis. My freshman year had me competing as the 1-spot on varsity for singles and doubles. My hard-work led me to finish the season at 12-2 in singles, the top in my area, as well as 23-7 in doubles, again finishing as the top in my area. I displayed my team leadership by forgoing singles at the state level in order to compete with my doubles partner, who is a senior. The two of us finished tied for 13th in the state of Illinois. As a doubles team, we earned Player of the Year from the News-Gazette. In addition to my focus in tennis, I play on my varsity basketball team and previously competed in state for pole vault. This variation in sports shows my flexibility, athleticism, and ability to be coached. I maintain a 4.0 GPA while juggling the many aspects of sports training.
