Personal Statement
Winning and competing in USTA tournaments, winning CITA (Chicago Indoor Tennis Association) championships, and playing in the top spots in doubles and singles throughout my high school seasons are definite high points in my tennis career. However, these are not the moments that define me as a person. I really learned that during my junior high school season, where I lost my second state-qualifying match. Since then, I also learned other important lessons that continue to help me overcome the frequent adversity tennis players face when there can only be one winner for a tournament.
Playing in the Chicago area, an extremely competitive tennis environment has taught me to be resilient and driven. All of my past experiences have developed grit in me, something I use in all of the components of my life whether it’s academics, sports, or relationships.
I found tennis when I was eight years old and ever since then I’ve always put improvement above distractions during practices. My profile on the court includes being a fast counter-puncher with a reliable backhand and serve. But overall, I love the battle and the relationships that come with it, and I plan to continue fighting through college matches.
