I am not Serena. I am not Sharapova. I am not Steffi Graf. I am not Althea Gibson. Shocker?..I know, right. Now that I've cleared the air a bit, I have to admit that I have no other bombshells to drop on you. Plainly stated, I am Azuri and I love the game I play - tennis.
What I am is a competitor who would love the opportunity to be in the same room with the greats of the game, let alone on the same court. My racquet skills, passion for the game and competition cannot be measured by star ratings and ITF rankings. When someone develops a rating system that measures my intestinal fortitude, character, desire, heart, passion, leadership etc. then please sign me up. What I am is a consummate team player. The team goal is my goal because I know the team goal is dependent upon my individual success. What I am is a student-athlete. I routinely balance academics with strength-training, agility training and on-court practice.
I am very interested in competing in college women’s tennis. Coaches when you contact me, I am very much interested in your opinions about what I am, not so much about what I am not. I look forward to talking with you soon.
