My athletic background is a story unlike most. I have not been playing tennis for a long period of time like the other kids my age and at my level. I started in the middle of 8th grade and am currently a junior in high school. After just 6 months of playing tennis I made the varsity team as a freshman at the #5 spot. I had never participated in any sort of tournaments or even ever played a match, but I knew the techniques of tennis that I learned from my dad. I have never taken a tennis lesson in my life and have gotten coached by my father aside from my high school coach. The funny thing is that my dad never had played tennis either, but he had played many other sports throughout his life. Since we couldn't afford lessons at the time, we decided to go online and learn how to play from YouTube and by watching the pros online. With just that my dad helped me develop great techniques and proper form that I get complimented on very frequently. My dad actually picked up the sport a lot faster than I did and has been coaching me since. After only losing one match my freshman year, sophomore year I climbed up to the number 1 spot on our varsity team and have been there ever since. I have also had an article in the local newspaper about my story and one article in my school newspaper. I look forward to taking actual lessons soon and playing for college. I believe i have the capability to learn quickly and apply it to my game, something that is a struggle for some.
My biggest strength is my forehand and my backhand slice. At the high school level most girls do not know how to hit the backhand slice, and therefore, I can easily confuse them by throwing in a couple of shots that they aren't used to. As for when I am on the court, I give my absolute 100% and wont give up until the match is officially over. I am a fighter and will play to my fullest for every shot and point.
Additionally, I have managed to keep my grades up and have a current GPA of 4.250. I am taking many honors classes and the work load can easily become overwhelming, however I have learned how to manage studies with tennis. Additionally, I am part of many other extracurricular? activities such as diversity club, Renaissance, National Honors society, Beta Chi Pi, and Key club all while doing volunteer work as well. Because of my ability to excel at sports and academics, I believe I would be a good recruit to have.
