Personal Statement
Hello! My name is Madeline Dering, and I am extremely eager to pursue collegiate tennis. I feel that I am a good candidate for a college team, due to my dedication, commitment to hard work, and leadership capabilities. Each year of my high school tennis career, I have set goals for myself and obtained them. I am very open to constructive criticism, and I work tirelessly to improve myself. In addition, I work well in a group, and feel that I am respected and admired by my peers (for example, I was named captain).
At the time of my graduation, I will have completed 2 years of JV tennis, and 4 years of varsity, and I am left handed and very interested in your tennis program. This past year (my junior year) I played 2nd singles, in a very competitive AA league, in which my team won both the council, and the section. I then went on to win individual sectionals, while playing doubles, then advanced to states. At states my partner and I won our first match, and lost our second, against the team who ultimately finished in the finals. In addition, my partner and I were named "first team" for our section. This year I hope to work even harder, and travel further both as a player, and as the captain of our team!
