It is always difficult to analyze yourself. In doing so, I believe I possess several characteristics that have helped me achieve a modest degree of success in both tennis and academics. Most importantly is my desire to win and compete at a high level. Through both training and experience, I believe I am at my best when the point is most crucial. Little things like taking what my opponent gives me (like a backhand down the line against a poaching adversary) as well as following the basics at crucial times have allowed me (and my partner) to be successful at crucial points in a match. Experience such as placing third in the county as a freshmen, second in the county as a sophomore, has served me well in teaching me how to win the counties as a junior and senior as well as finishing the state tournament tied for third with my teammate as a junior. My senior year, I continued my doubles career and was named First Doubles Team Non Public and All State Second Doubles Team. Additionally, at the risk of loosing some humility, I don't believe there are many, if any, doubles players in the state with a stronger backhand than mine. My school is very rigorous in academics. It is my belief that the hard work that I perform in academics has taught me what is necessary to be successful in sports. This has also worked in the opposite way where my years of training in tennis have taught me how important basics and foundation are to achieving any goal. My future goals include continuing a strong academic performance and contributing in a meaningful way to a collegiate tennis team. My family sports history of both my father (wrestling) and my grandfather (starting collegiate quarterback) has given me insight into both sports and academics that has assisted me immeasurably in my short career. Furthermore, over the past two summer, I taught children tennis at a local camp. Finally, I love being part of a team and even though tennis is somewhat individual I have been taught that the success of the team is paramount.
