Personal Statement
As I approach the end of my junior year of high school, I realize now more than ever, the importance of goal planning for my future. Don’t get me wrong, I have always been a very organized person and value the necessity of time management and that is why I am focused as I have never been before on my future.
I am first and foremost determined to be an outstanding student. Part of being exceptional means getting great grades, but it also means for me, being an athlete. As a personal statement, I feel a strong sense of social responsibility. My life must include volunteering and helping those in need. (Being well-rounded is important to me). As an academically inclined person, I study and try not to procrastinate as my schedule consists of all honors and Advanced Placement classes. As an athlete, I have to practice, practice, and practice to get better and better.
I originally started my athletic journey running cross country and track. My family has always placed large emphasis on being healthy and physical fit as an everyday practice. I love to run and still participate in local 5K races whenever possible. My dad has always been an avid tennis player and we would play together often. However, a few summers ago, I began to look at tennis in a whole new light. It was as if I could not get enough. I signed up for tennis my freshman year of high school and fell in love. I played whenever I could. In my sophomore year, I made the Varsity team and began playing all year round. My parents introduced me to a private coach and through the aid of my coach he encouraged me to start playing local tournaments and participating in weekly tennis clinics.
I realize that I am behind many other tennis players. However, I believe that what I have that they may not, is determination to rise above and beyond any limitations to play tennis; I believe that my only drawback is that I started late. I have the talent and I want to play tennis in college. I want to be phenomenal at my craft. I also want to be an extraordinary student and learn and excel in college. I guess you could say that I want it all and I feel that there is no reason that I cannot accomplish my dreams and have it all through tennis.
