Personal Statement
I was a sophomore when my team reached the Division II state championship match for the first time against an undefeated rival. I played No. 1 doubles, and my partner and I had lost only one set all season — to the doubles team we were playing in the state championship match.
Our team was behind 3-2 with two matches to go and we had to win both to win the title. The only match our opponents had lost all year was to my partner and I. In the third set, we finally broke serve and I had to serve out the match to help clinch the title. It was incredibly tense, but I managed to overcome my nerves. I learned a lot about my toughness in that moment, and it would help me as a junior, when I finished an undefeated season at No. 3 singles without losing a set while helping my team defend its Division II title.
Three years of high school varsity tennis have taught me how to be competitive and tactical, not just on the court, but in the classroom. I am always looking for ways to grow athletically, academically, and artistically. I plan on studying science in college and I’m very interested in the intersection of chemistry, nutrition, and physical therapy. I am fascinated by the human body - how it works, how nutrition affects our health, and new ways to help people fight disease, stay in shape, and be at their best. I also love art, music, and acting. I’ve taken art lessons since I was a child and art, in some form, will always be a vibrant part of my life.
I look forward to bringing a strong, well-rounded academic performance to the college I choose along with athletic and artistic abilities.
