Personal Statement
I am a passionate tennis player from Charlotte County, Virginia, and I am in the 12th grade. I currently attend the Governor's School of Southside Virginia and Randolph-Henry High School. I have played on my high school's varsity team since I was in the eight grade; 2017 will be my fifth year on the team. I have been playing tennis since I was about 7, so for 10 years. I love tennis, and I know continuing to play in college is the right move for me.
I am maintaining a 4.58 GPA and taking the most rigorous courses that my high school offers. I use my time wisely between schoolwork and other activities, especially in tennis season. Being a good student is crucial to being a successful athlete, so I think that my grades make me a good candidate for collegiate teams. I do my best to make smart decisions on and off the court. I try to think about how my actions will affect others, and I feel that my character also makes me a good candidate for a team. Over the years that I have been on my high school team, we have been able to make it further than previous years in the post season. We have made it to regional play the past three years as a team (2014, 2015 and 2016), and I have made it as a singles player those years also. The team and I, as an individual, advanced to the regional semifinals in 2015 and 2016. I have also won 3 invitationals (2014, 2015, and 2016) in Lynchburg, VA. In addition to that, I have had experience playing in multiple USTA tournaments. I think that my achievements and experience will help me to be a great collegiate tennis player.
My goal is to play tennis on a varsity college team. I know it is not going to be easy, but that is my dream, and I am prepared to work for it. I have made great advances in all areas of my game in the last year, and plan to continue that trend. I feel that my character, academic success, and athletic achievements and experience make me a really positive candidate for a collegiate team. Once again, I love the game, and I know that I could thrive as a college athlete.
