My name is Lauren Starling. I play Girls Tennis at King's Fork High School in Suffolk, VA. I've been playing tennis for about 3 years now, not to mention that I was the only sophomore team to make the team last year. I prefer to play doubles but I can play singles if needed. I am really good at overheads. Not only do I play tennis in school, but I plan on getting a personal trainer to work on my skills and techniques over the summer. Not only does tennis take up a lot of my time, but I am also involved in an organization called Job's Daughters International. In Job's Daughters we practice public speaking, respect for our elders, volunteering, and modesty. Also, we acquire a family bonding with all the people involved which includes people from all over the world. This organization has taught me how to work with others and to respect people for who they are. Job's Daughters and Tennis, yes are huge parts of my life but, my studies are also important. I try to keep a high GPA. School before sports is my motto. I am currently taking courses that keep me on track for an advanced diploma. What I plan to get out of college tennis is not only to gain skills, but to play what I love to do. I want to be able to grow as a person as a student athlete and to understand leadership, determination, and perseverance.
