Personal Statement
I spent the majority of my life as a gymnast starting at age one. I became a competitive USAG member at age six. I competed for seven years and made my way up to level 7. I was used to working out 3-4 hours per day, so when I finally decided to retire from gymnastics I began searching for other sports. I decided that cheerleading was a good fit for me and was able to use my gymnastic skills and become a varsity cheerleader as a freshman. When the cheerleading season was over I still wanted to pursue another sport and decided on track. I immediately found that I thoroughly enjoyed it and excelled at it. It did not take me long to realize that I was a sprinter and ran the 100, 200 and long jump. My times improved dramatically from beginning to end of the season and I know with proper coaching I could be an asset to a college track team. Part of the reason I mention my gymnastics and cheerleading career is that I have had many coaches and pride myself on being very coachable. I have always been a competitive person and strive to win and am willing to put in the time and work to achieve my goals. Some of the things that I would like to improve on other than just increasing speed is the ability to control my nerves and do an even better job of controlling my emotions. I have have been accepted into the Cambridge program at Lee Williams High school to push me harder academically in the hopes that this will better prepare me for college. I am hopeful that my dedication to athletics and academics combined will afford me the opportunity to attend college.
