Personal Statement
My collegiate goal is to obtain a superior education to prepare me for all aspects of life and career beyond my education. I want a college experience that brings new friends and new experiences. I have a passion for running. My entire family runs and I grew up watching my mom run over 40 marathons (so far). I will continue to run whether or not I run for a collegiate team. However, I want to be recruited because I am interested in continuing my running career in college with a possible scholarship to offset the cost of my education.
I have demonstrated leadership during cross country and track seasons by being a team leader despite being a freshman. I keep my life balanced between school, sports, and other activities. I play the flute in Chaparral's band and the piano at home. I think it is important to be well-rounded. I focus on my sleep and nutrition to improve my athletic performance. Most importantly, I have a strong Christian faith that keeps me grounded and humble, and helps me realize that my athletic performance does not define me as a person.
I constantly help encourage people who are nervous about their race and help the team stay organized and productive during workouts. Off the track, I am a leader when volunteering at Scottsdale Bible Church's Children's Ministry. I am also the oldest siblings of two. I have one younger sister and one younger brother with Down Syndrome. I use my natural leadership skills to be a good role model for them.
I am involved in service in my community in many different ways, and I have received the Girl Scouts Silver Award, the Gold Presidential Service Award (twice), and was a Character Counts Finalist. I have done over 300 hours of community service over the past several years with organizations like Scottsdale Youth Corps, Girl Scouts, and Scottsdale Bible Church. These efforts are important to me because I have a passion for helping the community in every way I can.
