Personal Statement
Greetings! My name is Alexis Castro. I am 17 in my senior at Canyon High School in Anaheim. My future scholastic goals are to attend a university that will challenge me academically and also provide the necessary tools to grow and contribute to the surrounding community and college experience. My current coursework in high school is the most difficult path a student can undertake, maintaining a 4.5 GPA in my classes.
My athletic goals are to compete at the highest level of my ability and be part of a program that will also permit me to challenge myself academically to a team,. I am the type of team member that listens to coach directives and leads by showing. My track events are the 800M, 1600M, and 3200M. I finished as the third fastest freshman (and youngest) in the 1600M in league finals my freshman year, and our track team was ranked 5th in Orange County. The same year, I won the Rookie of the Year Award for distance track runner on varsity. I also run on the varsity cross country team with a 18:21 as my best 3-mile time and 19:40 as my best 5K time.
I have been on the Crestview League Championship team two consecutive years, where we ranked in the top 3 in Orange County and top ten in state. Our team qualified for the State Championships and we finished in the top ten in the Division 2 race at Woodward Park, Fresno. I am excited to take my skill set to the next level and truly challenge myself academically and athletically.
Hobbies? Watching 80s movies, hiking, consuming food after a long run, and creating art for my Etsy shop.
