Haley Romero '16 Recruiting Profile

Hi my name is Haley Romero. I have been running track since I was in sixth grade. Before I was a track athlete, I was a competitive gymnast for 13 years. I was coached by two time Olympic silver medalist, Jingjing Zhang. As I was growing up in the gym, my coach taught me respect, confidence , and dedication. Under strict coaching I went up to level 9 in gymnastics. Unfortunately I had to quit because of a bad injury.  Now I am in track and I have been very successful in my events. Long jump is one of my favorite events. 4x100m relay and 100m hurdles are my next best events. 300m hurdles is a new event I have barely picked up in the middle of this season. The pole vault I started as a freshman but never practiced it. My coach thought since I have a gymnast background then I must be a pole vaulter. During that season he only put me in that event for points. I'm sure, if I have the correct coaching I can prefect that event even more. I have been on the varsity team all three years and will be team captain next year. I'm a three time CCS finalist in the long jump.  My parents are a big part of my success in school and sports. Both of my parents attended Fresno State University. My dad played football at Fresno from 1988-1992. My mom was also a gymnast for 9 years but didn't do any sports in college. They have pushed me into being a next level athlete. My mom is a teacher and she encourages me in my schooling. My grades have been very high throughout my years in high school. I am a well rounded student and strive to do my best in school. Even though my parents are divorced I still have a strong relationship with both of them.  I am sure that I am ready and have what it takes to compete at a collegiate level for track and field. I want to compete in track in college. That's all I've ever wanted to do since I've started this amazing sport. Thank you for taking the time to look at my profile.
