Personal Statement
Coming from a background of soccer and basketball, when I was first introduced to track and field in the seventh grade it quickly became my favorite sport. The coaches sent me straight to jumps due to my height and right away I fell in love with the feeling of flying through the air. I later discovered triple jump when I began high school, and I simply could not turn down another jumping opportunity. I have yet to plateau in my events continuing to better my personal records every year, multiple times throughout the season. No matter how good or bad the other competitors are, I will always be focused on bettering myself and my own records because I am always competing with myself. With my willingness to learn new techniques and train hard, I aspire to always have my records improve. When I set my mind to something I remain focused and I get it done while staying cheerful and gladsome. Positivity on and off the field is immensely important to me. There is almost always a smile on my face which helps me get through even the most busy or stressful day. I also like to stay on top of any assignment to avoid feeling overwhelmed. I am proud to say my transcript is mostly filled with As even in the more difficult courses my school offers. In college I would like to be both academically and athletically challenged. As a result I aim to leave a mark wherever I end up going, potentially setting a new record at the school, and assisting the team to a successful season. Aside from my fondness of jumping, I also enjoy participating in track and field because of the comradery of the sport and the opportunity to encourage others, make friendships during competition, compete and have fun all while being part of a team.
