Personal Statement

I have been running since 5th grade. My elementary school didn't have any running programs, I joined their afterschool sports program to keep myself in shape, so that I may be somewhat prepared for High school. Once I came to Eagle Rock and saw how the runners preformed, not only did I want to run at High school level; but also to aspire at collegiate level. Since I was only in 7th grade, I couldn't do Cross-Country or Track & Field, so I did SRLA. SRLA is a running club, we train for 6 months for the L.A Marathon, but we do races in between. I did this from 7th-10th grade. I am stopping this year because I am at greater chance of getting injured and I should be focusing more in Cross-Country and Track & Field than running the Marathon.

I work hard everyday and every year since I have joined Cross-Country and Track & Field. I'm girls varsity captain for Track (2014 season) and I try to lead by example. I started out being on the Varsity team as a freshmen, but also as a sophomore. I hope to still be on that team as I go into my junior and senior year I listen and pay attention to my coaches to what they say, I strive to be the best hard-working runner I can be and be one of the best hard-working recruits you will find. No matter how hard the workout might seem, I go through it until I finish the workout, even though I might be in pain or not. I never slack off even if it's a hard or easy workout. I like to take on challenges no matter what pain my body would be in after. I always try to push myself beyond my limits in every workout. I never put myself down by saying " I can't do this or that". Even if I do well on a race, I always say to myself that I have to " keep working hard."

In all my classes, I work hard, pay attention to the teacher's lecture, and take notes. I study very hard and try to keep my GPA above 3.5, which is my goal every year. So far I have taken AP World History, AP Psychology, AP U.S History, and AP English Language.. I am trying to take as many as I can.  I am also taking honors classes as well. I am very interested in becoming a psychiatrist. To become a psychiatrist, I have an idea of what the required field of study are: psychology and neuroscience. I volunteered at a park, I use to clean the park, clean the basketball court, and do the scoreboard.

I want to go to a college where I can push myself in class and on the track. I see myself as a strong, hard-working athlete without the financial aspect, which makes it harder for me to find a college to go to with my financial dilemma. I am open to all options, find the right college that has a high competition level and specializes in my majors, psychology and neuroscience, so that I may start my career as a psychiatrist.
