Personal Statement
From a very young age I realized I was blessed with a gift of truly enjoying competing; to be the very best I could be. My character was formed doing homework in my mom’s car while driving to practice 5 days most weeks, and later competing internationally. The time management skills I learned then are serving me well now, and will also help me to be a successful student athlete in college. There were gymnasts with better flexibility; however, very few with more drive. I loved to compete then in gymnastics and now I have found that same drive and determination in pole vaulting! Though in both of these sports I am an individual competitor, I always compete with the team goal in mind. When I jumped my most recent PR, I truly enjoyed sharing the excitement with my fellow teammates. The part I especially like about being on a team is how we push and help each other. My helpful personality on my track team has even earned me the nickname of “Team Mom”. They just gave me a Mother’s Day card too!
I am seeking a college and track program that will be a great fit for academically as well as on the track. I prefer a campus with character, teammates with heart, and a coach who cares enough to push their athletes to always improve and be their best both on and off the field. My proven discipline will allow me to excel in class, and propel me to higher PR’s on the track, while encouraging and leading my teammates to thrive. I am thankful and excited about this next chapter in my life to build on the opportunities I have already enjoyed. This focused growth with lots of hard work, but also fun will further develop my gifts to serve and lead others after college in my chosen field of nursing. I look forward to speaking with you so I can learn more about you and your team, and you can better understand who I am and what I offer.
