Personal Statement
I began my athletic career in competitive cheer. I've been a competitive cheerleader for the last four years, competing at levels two, three, four, and six. I began competing in Dallas, Texas with Dynasty Cheer and when my family relocated to Los Angeles, I competed with Cheer 360 and finally, Pacific Coast Magic, winning various championships such as: JAMZ Nationals, Spirit Sports, and Encore Championships.
I was introduced to track a year ago, in April of 2016. Although I have not been running very long, I have excelled in track just as I excelled in competitive cheer. I have medaled first in two of the four invitationals I have participated in so far and am undefeated in the 100m in my district. I believe my "gift" of running came from my father, who passed away from lung cancer in 2013. He never got the chance to see me run. Now that he is gone, my drive and ambition for track comes from knowing he passed his gift on to me. The loss of a parent has actually helped me grow tremendously as an athlete and a student. I am better at fighting through mental and physical pain; I am very disciplined, I am an astute learner, and I am focused. In sum, I am committed to being successful, no matter what.
