Waverly (Wave) Puckett '25 Recruiting Profile

I am Waverly Puckett, a current junior at Ralston Valley High School in Arvada, Colorado. I started running in my freshman year of high school. I wasn’t totally sure what I was getting myself into when I enrolled in cross country, but I ended up developing a passion for running. I completed my first time trial and my coaches were impressed. I was excited to see what I could do. Instead of joining the high school’s soccer team as I had planned, I chose to continue my running career with the distance track team. I began training over the summers to perform better. I show up to practice every day with a good attitude and have earned my position as a team leader that helps and encourages my teammates. I choose to put my time into this sport because it makes me a better person and athlete. I feel accomplished coming away from practice and am excited to return the next day. As an athlete, I am coachable, hardworking, and dedicated. Running has taught me many important values, especially perseverance. I also love all of the fun memories I’ve created with my teammates over the years. Some of these people have become my closest friends. We are there for each other no matter what. My coaches inspire me to do my best. They’ve taught me that if something doesn’t go the way you want it to, that’s ok, it’s a lesson learned and it gives you motivation to do better next time. I am excited about running in college and would love to continue growing as a person and athlete at the next level.
